Deaconess Foundation is a private foundation committed to helping Cuyahoga County’s most disadvantaged residents prepare for, get and keep jobs. We make grants to organizations and collaborate with others to strengthen employment in our community.

Our focus on employment stems from the belief that helping people get and keep jobs is a powerful way to simultaneously attack many challenges they face and help them effect change in their own lives. We hope that by strengthening the performance of individual organizations and the broader employment-support system, we can address one of our region’s most pressing issues and help every individual who wants a job to get and keep one.

Collaboration is critical to our success, and we continuously look for opportunities to lead or support collective efforts to strengthen employment and our region’s larger human services sector. We work closely with our grantees to help them make the most of their efforts by providing flexible grants, offering resources to help them be more effective and helping forge productive alliances across the community. Additionally, we are committed to learning all that we can about the issues that affect employment and sharing the knowledge we gain with others involved in the same effort.

Our work is driven by a deep and abiding concern for the least among us, and we actively seek out new partners and ideas that support our mission.
