We are excited to welcome Tiffany Hsieh to the City Club on October 24, as part of the annual Deaconess Foundation celebration of the legacy of our former CEO, Deborah Vesy.
Tiffany Hsieh is the director of innovation programs in the Incubation practice at JFF Labs. She’s also responsible for strategy and operations for the Center for Artificial Intelligence & the Future of Work. In addition to her leadership of these initiatives, Tiffany primarily works with innovative organizations to test and scale new models for learning and workforce development (harnessing the power and potential of AI), with the goal of accelerating access to quality jobs. We think this topic couldn’t be more relevant!
One example of this work which is useful today is the report Tiffany and her colleague, David Fu, wrote a year ago: “Use Cases for Generative AI in Workforce Development”. This report starts by articulating all the use cases for two audiences:
- Job seekers
- Those who support job seekers
The report then summarizes all the use cases for each of these audiences. For example, for the job seeker audience, there are three use cases for “helping me find a career I’m interested in”: 1) self-assessment, 2) career navigation and exposure, and 3) building career navigation skills. The report reflects 30 use cases for job seekers overall.
It then maps existing AI tools (as of a year ago) against these use cases, and articulates where there is opportunity for development of AI tools which aren’t already underway. Using the three use cases above, here are the generative AI tools identified for these use cases:
1) For self-assessment: AffiCoach, Rocky.AI, NAV, APT and BASTA are mentioned
2) For career navigation and exposure: GIADEO, Wingspans, jobspeaker, skills2opp, Sternuli, and a few others are available
3) For building career navigation skills: Jobcase
Any workforce development organization interested in improving staffing, effectiveness, or efficiency in its work supporting job seekers, managing operations, or thinking differently about occupations would benefit from at least considering the information in this report. Take a look, and then mark your calendar for noon on Oct. 24 at the City Club to hear Tiffany.
And, if you’d like the chance to talk with Tiffany directly, please reach out to me directly. She’s interested in spending time in greater Cleveland to learn more about our ecosystem!
